What It Does

The hemmer foot is a presser foot designed to create a professional, narrow, double-folded rolled hem in one single step. The scroll or funnel on the front automatically curls the raw edge of the fabric inward twice, resulting in a clean, finished edge as the machine stitches it down with a straight stitch.

Ideal For

Perfect for lightweight to medium-weight fabrics such as silk, chiffon, or for hemming items like scarves, napkins, and ruffles.

How to Use

1. Attach the foot: Snap the hemmer foot onto your machine's presser foot holder.

2. Prepare the fabric start: Fold the first inch or two of the fabric edge over twice, matching the approximate width of the hemmer foot's guide. You can pin this small section or finger-press it.

3. Position the fabric: Place the pre-folded fabric under the presser foot and lower it.

4. Start stitching: Sew a few stitches to secure the start of the hem.

5. Feed the fabric into the scroll: With the needle down in the fabric, lift the presser foot and gently guide the raw edge into the scroll-shaped funnel. Lower the presser foot and continue sewing slowly and steadily, guiding the fabric edge into the funnel while keeping slight tension.

Tips for Success

• Practice on fabric scraps first - there's a slight learning curve
• Works best with lightweight, delicate fabrics
• For slippery fabrics like chiffon, use wash-away stabilizer or light spray of hairspray on the fabric edge
• Use a tiny dab of fabric glue at bulky seams to ensure smooth transitions
• Let the feed dogs do the work - don't force or pull the fabric
